What is a Blogger? And What Does a Blogger Do?

Have you heard of blogging recently and wondering how you get in on the action? Perhaps a friend or family member has declared themselves a blogger, and you’re not quite sure what that means? We’re here to help!

Here we dissect just what exactly do we mean by ‘blogger’? What is this new species of wonder-person that is fast increasing? What do they do and why do they do it? Let’s see…

What is a blog?

The first important question is, what is a blog?

According to Google:

blog

bläɡ/
noun
1.
a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an
individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational
style.
Right, now that’s out the way, we can get to the important stuff –

What is blogging?

Blogging has been around for way longer than you may think. The first-ever ‘weblog’ was actually created in 1994. In 1999 the site Blogger was launched and people began blogging about their lives. But in 2003, Adsense was launched and people began to make money using their blogs. This was just the beginning of the amazing world of blogging that we now know today.

So, blogging may often be referred to simply as ‘creating blogs’. But BlogBoss Bloggers know that this is not true! Blogging today is so much more than that. It’s creating useful, engaging content shared on the web. It’s gaining a loyal following of readers who are genuinely interested in what you have to say.

It’s spending endless nights awake, writing thousands of words on everything that you’re passionate about. It’s documenting the ups and downs of living. It’s supporting other bloggers and making the world aware of important topics. It’s exciting, sometimes frustrating, and it’s hard work.

But above all, blogging is finding content in everyday life, and putting that content into a captivating post, video, or article.

Who can become a Blogger

Anyone. Literally. You don’t need to be a genius or an expert. You don’t need to have tons of money or know Spanish royalty. The essentials to becoming a blogger are simple:

  • Have a passion for creating content
  • Create that content
  • Share it with the world
